The Wat Tyler Project

The Wat Tyler Project will transform the Park, with its legacy of historic buildings and fascinating wildlife, into a centre of excellence and regional destination of choice for over 350,000 visitors each year, where people and families can relax, play and learn.

The project will provide major enhancements to the existing range of facilities as well as bringing new and exciting opportunities for individuals, schools, organisations and businesses.

Education and learning at all levels, improved access throughout the Park, habitat management that will create even greater biodiversity and a new heritage centre that will house an exhibition area, classrooms, café/restaurant, sports area and conferencing facilities. The project will be an exemplar of sustainable technology, with the refurbishment of several buildings achieving carbon neutral status.

Design company DOT are partnering with landscape architects Allen Scott to deliver the project which will serve as a model for other sustainable development programmes that follow. DOT will design branding and a major exhibition space at the Park, interlinked with interpretive trails designed by Allen Scott, along with this media-rich web site.

The contract was awarded after the team presented ideas for branding, landscaping and interpretation developed with very close links based on the principle theme of ‘one great thing leads to another…

Design work has begun and is expected to be complete in around four months. Construction and development work on site is scheduled for completion in 2009.
