The Wat Tyler Project

The Wat Tyler Project will transform the Park, with its legacy of historic buildings and fascinating wildlife, into a centre of excellence and regional destination of choice for over 350,000 visitors each year, where people and families can relax, play and learn.

The Wat Tyler Sculpture Trail

Walking around the Park you’ll come across some strange and wonderful sculptures. These are all part of the Wat Tyler Sculpture Trail – a community-based art project of potentially national importance being developed within the Park.

The project is a collaboration between professional artists, local schools, the staff at Wat Tyler Country Park and Basildon District Council. Workshops involving young people from local schools are led by artists to create initial design ideas - bringing many of them into direct contact with professional artists for the first time, benefitting from their skills and experience.

The involvement of the schools in the project also gives a continuing sense of ownership and interest in the Sculpture Trail which can be enjoyed by both residents and visitors alike in the truly contemporary environment of the Park.

The Sculpture Trail is an opportunity for local artists to display their work alongside nationally and internationally established sculptors making it a showcase of innovation, design skills and creativity which enhances the district’s reputation as a centre of regional cultural significance.

To find out more about the Sculpture Trail visit the Sculpture at Wat Tyler web site or visit the Park and take a look for yourself.
